Petra Wunderlich

Under the title ‘Common Ground’ the artist shows a group of 21 black and white photographs of buildings of religious communities in Manhattan, New York, which have in common the use as a synagogue.

These buildings are all still in use as synagogue or were in their past synagogues and are now used as churches of other religious communities. These buildings are all presented absolutely frontal, some isolated and some embedded in the urban structure. In New York’s street alignments, these buildings come in appearance only as a facade. Important for the artist is, that there is always an optimal architectural presence of the documented buildings.. link
